Happy Saturday and welcome to The Weekend Edit.
If you have been here a while, this will feel familiar and a little different all at once. Years ago I ran a series called Weekend Reading. Friday posts of whatever I happened to be thinking, reading, coveting. Then it went quiet. Well: it is back, rebuilt, with a new name on the door. Welcome to The Weekend Edit.
Here is the shape of it. Every Saturday morning I will leave you a short note like this one, and then the good stuff. What I have been reading, a few things I can’t stop thinking about, the recipe I can’t wait to try, one small joy from the week. Less a diary this time, more the contents of my open tabs and my saved folder, edited down to the bits actually worth your coffee.
I will be honest with you: I am starting this first one a little unprepared. Which, on reflection, feels like exactly the right energy for a soft open. So pour something warm, and let’s begin.
Reading
Bookmarking these easy outfit ideas for the in-between weeks, when it is too warm for a coat and too cool for bare arms.
Making the case for the best east coast beach towns to visit in the fall.
A dermatologist on doing less to your skin in the heat, which is all I wanted to hear.
I will always, always read about Gwyneth Paltrow’s shower routine. No notes.
Quiet proof that the plain white top is a whole outfit if you commit to it.
A question I didn’t know was keeping me up: how many pairs of jeans you actually need.
Fell straight into the fantasy of dinner in Paris, asleep on a train, breakfast in Berlin.
I am not cutting my hair. I am, however, reading every single one of these arguments for the bob.
And a listen: Julia Berolzheimer on buying less and dressing better on the Lipstick On The Rim podcast with Molly and Emese, which is essentially my whole wardrobe philosophy said out loud and rather better than I could.
Finds
The body exfoliator that is gentle enough to use twice a week.
After a summer of sea and sun: a few drops of this, no rinse, done.
That glazed-donut nail everyone’s after, in a polish that is actually kind to your nails.
The small gold hoops I reach for on the days I can’t be bothered to think, they quietly do all the work.
Proof good table things needn’t cost much: this porcelain serving plate.
Yes, I keep everything on my phone. Yes, I still want this planner on my desk. Some things are just nice.
And the swoony end-of-summer novel I just finished this week. Annabel Monaghan doesn’t miss.
On the menu
The peach crumble I would make with whatever peaches are left.
A one-pan tomato, chicken and orzo for the evenings I’ve decided not to try very hard.
Saving this breakfast grazing board for the next slow Saturday with people in the house.
And the sneaky-vegetable cake I fully intend to eat for breakfast.
One good thing
The first figs of the summer, which I love possibly too much. I have been having them with my morning coffee all week, and that simple pairing is pretty much the whole essence of summer to me.
Thanks for being here for issue one. Tell me in the comments what you read this week, I am always collecting.
